WHY I STARTED THIS WORK

Traditional craft is not just about making things. It’s about passing on a culture,
a mindset, and a story.
I learned this by watching my father—a traditional craftsman—pour his spirit into every creation.

Today, many artisans are being pushed out by mass production and price wars.
The quiet dedication, deep aesthetic values, and long histories behind their work are at risk of disappearing.

Through this blog, I’ll share the invisible stories, care, and aesthetics behind traditional craft.
I want people around the world to experience each piece not just as a product,
but as a quiet cultural experience.

In each post, I’ll answer questions like: “What does ___ really mean?”
Let’s start with: What is a “Dentō Kōgeishi”? (Certified Traditional Craftsperson)
In Japan, a “Dentō Kōgeishi” is a national certification granted to artisans who have at least 12 years of experience, and who pass rigorous exams in skills, knowledge, and interviews.
As of 2025, there are about 3,600–3,800 certified craftspeople across the country (source).
By telling these stories, I hope to bring dignity and new life to the work of today’s artisans—and to invite you into their quiet, profound world.
